RUSTIC FLOORING
In the days of
throwaway products, it is wonderful to see that more any more
products are being reclaimed, reused and recycled for a longer life
and more effective utilization of the earth's resources. One such
product is rustic flooring. This is wood salvaged from old
buildings that is recycled for use as highly desirable flooring
products.
Rustic flooring
is wood reclaimed from old barns, houses and other structures that
is re-milled and used for flooring in new construction or remodeling
projects. The rustic flooring is often old-growth timber from years
past. It may be thicker than today's products. The rustic flooring
product comes with nail holes, with worm holes and of course, with
knots and other blemishes that add to its unique character.
In many
instances, the wood that is sold for rustic flooring cannot be
obtained any more. Some species of wood such as Northern Yellow
Pine. This species is harder than today's pine species and the
flooring features both heartwood and sapwood. Antique Oak flooring
usually is a mixture of White Oak and Red Oak obtained from
deconstructed military bases and Kentucky tobacco barns amongst
others. The wood is straight grained and kiln dried to resist
twisting and warping.
